Sometimes. Vela and Lamima publish airport transfers inside their rates, the Phinisi 50 agent listing excludes them, and Asik Travel covers city-area harbour transfers on its shared trips. One operator guide calls airport or hotel transfers typical. Terms differ boat by boat, so have the pick-up point, the direction and any limit written into your offer.
Are transfers part of the rate?
On some boats, and the public sources point in several directions. The table shows what each one says and what it leaves open.
| Source | Transfer term | Still to ask |
|---|---|---|
| Komodo operator guide | Calls airport or hotel transfers to the harbour part of a typical rate | A general description; does your boat follow it? |
| Vela, operator | Airport transfers included | Both directions? Any limit on timing? |
| Lamima, operator | Airport or hotel transfers included | Which hotels, and on which days? |
| Phinisi 50, agent listing | Transfers excluded | Who arranges them, and at what price? |
| Asik Travel | City-area harbour transfers on shared trips | Does this extend to a private charter? Where does "city area" end? |
Three distinctions get lost when a rate simply says "transfers included". First, airport and hotel are different promises: a boat may meet your flight but not collect you from a hotel the night before. Second, inbound and outbound are separate legs, and a return flight the day after you land needs a plan of its own. Third, a transfer to the harbour may not be the same as a transfer to the boat, so ask how you get from the quay to the deck if the vessel is lying off.
The airfare itself is a separate matter from the transfer. Vela's rate excludes airfare and visas while including the ride from the airport. Lamima lists expenses beyond its control, such as flight cancellation, as outside its rate, so a delayed arrival may not be its cost to absorb. The rest of the list is on our page about what a charter rate includes, and the items that stay out are on our exclusions list.
How far is the harbour from the airport?
About 10 minutes by road, according to Barefoot Yachts, an agent. That is one agent's figure, so treat it as a guide to planning and allow for luggage, traffic and handover. If your rate excludes the ride, ask who arranges the vehicle and what it costs before you land.
The airport is Komodo International Airport, IATA code LBJ, which serves Labuan Bajo on the western tip of Flores. Labuan Bajo is a fishing town and the capital of West Manggarai Regency. Wikipedia lists routes from Denpasar, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur, while Barefoot mentions direct daily flights from Bali and Jakarta. Routes change, so we do not publish timetables. Check the current schedule with the airline before you fix a boarding time, and leave yourself a margin between landing and sailing.
Which visa do foreign guests need to reach Labuan Bajo?
Holders of passports from the 87 countries listed on Indonesia's official e-visa site can apply for a Visitor Visa: single entry, a 30-day stay, one visa per traveller including children, and a passport valid for at least six months from arrival. The details must match the passport exactly, and the site advises applying at least 48 hours before departure. One point needs checking if you plan to fly straight into Labuan Bajo from abroad. The site's list of landing points names Ngurah Rai in Bali and Soekarno-Hatta in Jakarta among airports and Labuan Bajo among seaports, and Komodo Airport does not appear; a separate answer on the same page mentions only Soekarno-Hatta and Ngurah Rai. Confirm with immigration or your airline before you buy a direct ticket. Bali and Jakarta are on the list, and the site names visa on arrival as another route.
Which port do boats use?
Kompas describes boats to the park, including phinisi, open deck boats and speedboats, leaving from Marina Labuan Bajo port. That is a general description. We have not found a source that states where each named luxury boat takes on guests, so have the boarding point written into your papers, and ask whether a tender is involved.
The same report shows why a boarding time deserves attention. The harbourmaster, as reported there, issued 20,562 sailing clearances to tourist boats from January to June 2026, an average of 113 departures a day. That is many boats and many guests moving through one town's waterfront. Ask your operator for a boarding window and the name of whoever will meet you, not only the name of the port.
When do repositioning charges appear?
When the boat is not where your charter wants to begin. The Phinisi 50 listing notes that relocation fees may apply depending on the point of departure, and it lists repositioning fees and port fees outside home bases among its exclusions. The boat's calendar explains why: the same listing places the yacht in Komodo from April to August, and in Raja Ampat, the Banda Sea and Maluku from September to March.
This is not unique to one boat. Navelia says most yachts move between Komodo and Raja Ampat with the season, and Vela says its charters usually depart from Labuan Bajo, Sorong and Ambon. So Labuan Bajo is a common starting point without being the only one, and a boat may be far from it at certain times of year. If you ask for Komodo dates at the edge of a boat's season, or want to finish somewhere other than where you began, ask directly whether any relocation charge applies. Have it shown as its own line, so you can compare the offer with one from a boat that is already in place.
What should your offer say about getting aboard?
A few specific lines remove most of the risk here.
- Pick-up point on arrival: airport, a named hotel, or the harbour.
- Drop-off point at the end of the trip, stated separately.
- The boarding point and the planned boarding time.
- What happens if your flight is late or cancelled, and whose cost that is.
- Any limit on the transfer, such as a town boundary or a set number of vehicles.
- Any relocation or port charge, as a separate line.
- The name and number of the person meeting you, supplied before you travel.
For a group arriving on several flights, say so early. A single included transfer may not cover vehicles running at different hours, and that is much easier to settle before signing than at the airport kerb.
What do readers ask about transfers?
Are transfers to Labuan Bajo harbor included in a charter?
On some boats. Vela and Lamima publish airport transfers as included, and the Phinisi 50 listing excludes them. Check your offer for the pick-up point and both directions.
How do I arrange airport or hotel transfers for my charter?
Ask the operator or agent first, because the rate may already cover them. If it does not, ask who arranges the ride and at what cost. Give your flight details and hotel name early so the offer can state them.
Where do charters depart from for Komodo National Park?
Kompas describes boats to the park leaving from Marina Labuan Bajo port. Have your own boarding point stated in writing.
Does a charter always start and end in Labuan Bajo?
No. Vela says its charters usually depart from Labuan Bajo, Sorong and Ambon, and Navelia says most yachts move between Komodo and Raja Ampat with the season. Ask about the end point as well as the start.
Can I land and board on the same day?
Possibly. Barefoot Yachts puts the drive from the airport to the harbour at about 10 minutes, so distance is not the obstacle. Flights can slip, though, and Lamima lists flight cancellation as beyond its control, so ask your operator how late boarding can run.
