Sourced figures: prices in the table carry their source and check month. A published rate is not a quote and not our offer, and nothing here is legal advice.

Across all classes, one Komodo operator guide calls three days and two nights the most popular length, but some luxury boats publish more: Vela and Ultimate Indonesian Yachts state four nights in Komodo, Barefoot Yachts recommends three, and one listing asks for seven days. A two-night plan therefore shrinks your choice of boats.

The gap between "most popular" and "minimum" can catch you out: a three-day window taken from a general Komodo article may fall below what a larger boat publishes. The sections below show who publishes what.

What minimums do luxury boats publish?

Here are the statements we can source. Notice the verbs: a requirement, a house practice, a recommendation and a listing condition are not the same thing.

What minimums do luxury boats publish?
Seller and boatPublished minimumType of statement
Vela (operator)4 nights in Komodo; added fees possible below thatRequirement, with room for exceptions at a cost. Its most popular Komodo charter is 5 days and 4 nights
Ultimate Indonesian Yachts (agent)4 nights in Komodo; 5 nights in Raja AmpatSays its yachts operate these minimums
Barefoot Yachts (agent)3 nights for KomodoRecommendation
Phinisi 50 (agent listing)7 daysStated minimum charter

These figures do not add up to a market rule. They are four sellers describing their own boats or their own advice, and we have not found an authority that sets a minimum. The Vela line is the most useful one to read closely. "May carry additional fees" means the four-night floor works partly as a price point: a shorter trip is something to ask about, with the extra cost put in writing.

The minimum also sets the smallest bill you can receive. A nightly figure in isolation flatters a boat with a long minimum, so multiply the rate by the minimum and add the published tax before comparing it with anything else. The price table on this page shows why this step is needed: its rows use three different bases, namely per night, per week and per trip, and they will not line up until you convert them to your own dates.

Can you charter for fewer nights?

Yes, though usually on a different kind of boat. The Komodo Resort guide calls two days and one night the shortest overnight charter most boats offer, and that statement covers every class in the harbour and not just the top end. Asik Travel publishes private charter tiers for 2 days 1 night and 3 days 2 nights, both on a standard boat with a base price covering up to 10 guests. Those tiers are shown in the price table as a contrast and should not be read as what a flagship would charge for the same nights.

Read those two Asik rows as published and check them on Asik Travel's page. The step between them looks small for an extra night, the source gives no reason for it, and we draw no advice from it. If two lengths interest you, ask for both in the same request.

If you want a particular luxury boat for fewer nights than it publishes, ask three questions: is it possible at all, what is the added fee, and does it depend on the boat already being positioned in Labuan Bajo? That last point matters because the Phinisi 50 listing warns of possible relocation fees tied to where you depart, and a short trip has fewer nights to absorb such a cost.

What does a shorter trip change?

It changes how much of your time goes on transit, and how much margin you have if something moves. By the Komodo Resort guide's reckoning, the run between Labuan Bajo and the central park sites takes one and a half to two and a half hours in each direction. That operator has its own island resort, so read the statement with that in mind. The time cost is the same on any length of trip, and a short trip feels it most.

Harbour rules tighten the arithmetic further. Antara reported on 9 January 2026 that three-day two-night trips can still run under the harbourmaster's night-time ban on movement in park waters. The Komodo Resort guide adds that the old overnight dash to Padar for sunrise has gone: the boat now has to be anchored close to the island before the previous sunset. Night hours that once covered distance now go on anchoring, so a short schedule has less slack than it once did.

What does a shorter trip change?
LengthWhat sources sayWhat it means for your plan
2 days, 1 nightShortest overnight most boats offer (Komodo Resort guide); a published tier on a standard boat (Asik Travel)Few luxury options on the minimums above. One held morning takes a large share of the trip
3 days, 2 nightsMost popular length across classes (Komodo Resort guide); can still run under the night rule (Antara)Enough for a short loop. Two nights sits below Barefoot Yachts' recommended 3 nights, and below the stated floor on Vela and at Ultimate Indonesian Yachts
3 nightsRecommended minimum for Komodo (Barefoot Yachts)A recommendation and not a rule, and still below the stated floor on Vela and at Ultimate Indonesian Yachts
5 days, 4 nightsVela's most popular Komodo charter (Vela FAQ)Meets the 4-night minimums above, and leaves room for one changed day
7 daysMinimum on the Phinisi 50 listingA different kind of trip, with a much higher starting bill

The stops themselves are covered in our three-day, two-night route page. Treat any sample route as a sample, because your captain will fit it to wind, tide and the clearance on the day.

How do you decide on length?

Decide which of three things is fixed, then let that settle the rest.

  • The boat is fixed. You want one named vessel. Its minimum decides your length, and the next step is finding dates, so ask for the boat's position across your window before talking about nights.
  • The days are fixed. You have, say, three nights between flights. Remove any boat whose published minimum is higher, and ask the rest for written confirmation. Set aside your arrival and departure days first, since a boat leaving on the day you land depends on that flight.
  • The budget is fixed. Build the total as nightly rate, times nights, plus tax, plus the lines the rate leaves out. A smaller boat for longer can come to the same bill as a larger boat for fewer nights, and only the sum will show you.

Then weigh what the group actually wants from the water. Divers, for example, should check first whether the boat can dive at all: the Komodo Resort guide warns that a charter boat is often no dive boat at all, lacking a compressor, tanks or anyone qualified to lead. A party of non-divers wanting a walk, a beach and a good dinner has less need of extra days. Anyone comparing several boats at several lengths should also read the published prices page, which brings the operator and agent rates together.

One last point on families and older guests. If some of the group will find a long passage hard going, more nights can mean a gentler pace, with fewer long moves a day. That is our editorial reasoning and not a statement from any operator, so ask how the captain would actually schedule your days at each length. The minimum-stay line also sits in the comparison table of our luxury phinisi overview, next to tax and deposit.

Which published prices did we check?

Operator rate pages, agent listings and park fees, each with its source and the month we checked it. A "from" rate is a starting figure, not a quote and not our offer. Tax, season and dates change the total, so check the source before you rely on a figure.

What other questions come up about trip length?

How long is a typical cruise from Labuan Bajo?

It depends on the class. One Komodo operator guide calls three days and two nights the most popular length across all boats, while Vela's most popular Komodo charter is five days and four nights.

Can I book a luxury phinisi for two days and one night?

Rarely on the boats that publish a minimum. Vela and Ultimate Indonesian Yachts state four nights in Komodo, and Vela warns of added fees below that. Standard boats do publish that length.

Is a three-night trip long enough?

It can be. Barefoot Yachts recommends a minimum of three nights for Komodo, but that sits below the stated floor on Vela and at Ultimate Indonesian Yachts, so the answer depends on the boat you want.

Do minimum stays differ outside Komodo?

Yes, at least at one agent. Ultimate Indonesian Yachts says its yachts operate minimum four-night charters in Komodo and minimum five-night charters in Raja Ampat. Ask each seller about the waters you plan to sail.

Does a shorter charter always cost less overall?

Not always in proportion. Vela warns that a trip below its minimum may carry added fees, so ask for the total at each length and do not scale it from a nightly rate.

How do I reach the desk?

Tell the desk how many nights you have, which flights frame them and whether a boat is already in your mind. WhatsApp +62 811-3941-4563 or email bd@juaraholding.com. If the length is flexible, give us your earliest departure and latest return, since a request written as a window is easier to answer than one fixed date.
