One Komodo operator guide says good boats book three to six months ahead for July and August, its busiest and most expensive weeks. That is one operator's figure and not a market rule. For a mid-July departure it points to the window between mid-January and mid-April, and your payment terms may argue for the earlier end.

How far ahead do sources suggest?

We have one named figure. A Komodo operator guide says July and August have the flattest seas and are the busiest and most expensive weeks, and that good boats book three to six months ahead. We have found no second source that puts a number on it, and no survey of how early boats actually fill. The guide comes from an operator with its own trips to sell, and "good boats" is its own phrase. Read the figure as one informed view.

Turned into dates, the window looks like this. The arithmetic is ours and adds nothing to the guide's claim.

This page cannot tell you whether a particular boat is free, and we have not found a public source that lists availability across boats. The guide also says these weeks cost more without giving a percentage, so you will need a quote for your actual dates to see any difference. Our guide to the seasons for a charter sets July and August against the rest of the year.

How does the park quota affect peak dates?

It adds a limit that sits outside the boat's own calendar. Indonesia Expat reports an annual quota of 365,000 visitors with a daily allocation of 1,000, and says the park authority added 500 visitors a day for September to December 2026. The authority calls that figure provisional. Two things follow for someone planning next July.

First, the extra allocation as reported runs only to the end of 2026, and the authority describes its additions as staged and temporary, so next peak season's daily number is still open. Second, the quota is expressed in visitors and not in boats. A vessel can be free on your dates while the sites you want are under pressure. We also could not confirm a reliable daily split between Komodo, Rinca, Padar and Manta Point, so nobody should promise you a site on the strength of a headline number.

Registration is where this reaches you. An operator guide dates compulsory SiOra registration from 1 April 2026, rules out walk-in tickets and leaves passenger registration to licensed operators, so your operator is the one who deals with the system. Ask when it registers a party, what it does if a date or site is full, and what you would be told. Our page on the park rules that shape a trip covers the wider rules.

How busy is the harbour in peak season?

Busy enough that a boarding plan is worth thinking through, although the figures need careful reading.

How busy is the harbour in peak season?
FigureWhat it countsHow to read it
20,562 clearances, January to June 2026Sailing clearances to tourist boats, per the harbour office via KompasAll tourist boat types, not only luxury phinisi
113 departures a dayThe same report's average for that half-yearA six-month average, and that period does not include July or August
324 clearances by midday, 10 August 2026Clearances that morning, per the harbour office via KompasThe day sailing reopened after a stop, so it is not a typical peak day
3,771 tourists departingThe same morning, same reportSame caution as the line above

Set side by side, the August morning is nearly three times the first-half daily average, and it was only midday. But Kompas reports that sailing to Komodo and Padar had been restricted from 6 August and reopened on 10 August with waves of 1.30 to 1.50 metres. Some of that crowd may well have been waiting from the days before. The fair reading is that a reopening day can bring a large surge, and it tells you little about an ordinary August morning.

The same August episode qualifies the guide's "flattest seas". Both can be true across a season, and the restriction shows that a stop can still come in the driest months. If your flights home leave little margin after the charter, this is the point to widen them. Our page on what happens when the weather turns looks at how terms treat a lost day.

Kompas also reports that Mondays and Fridays are usually the peak at the harbour. If your dates can move, ask whether boarding on another weekday is possible. The report says nothing about price or about whether any given boat can start on another day.

Does booking late cost you cancellation room?

It can, and this is the argument for the earlier end of the window that gets the least attention. Published terms count backwards from departure, so a late booking may start inside a band you would have wanted to avoid.

  • Vela's terms ask for a 30% deposit with the balance 90 days before departure, or a 50% deposit with the balance 60 days before. Book at three months and the first option's balance is due almost at once.
  • Tiare's published charter terms step to no refund at 119 days or less. On those terms, a booking made three months out has no refund band left at all.

Those are two boats and do not set a market standard. They do show why you should read a boat's payment schedule against your booking date, rather than the deadline alone. Our comparison of deposit and cancellation terms has more examples.

What should you lock in first?

Work in this order. Each step narrows the next, and flights come late because they are the hardest to change.

  1. Your date range and how far it can move. A week's flexibility gives a provider more to work with than a fixed start day.
  2. The party list. The number of guests and how they share cabins decide which boats are even possible.
  3. Whether the boat is in Komodo then. Published calendars differ: Vela places Komodo in May to September, Prana by Atzaro in June to October. Check the calendar of the boat you want.
  4. A written offer naming the boat and dates. Compare the payment schedule with the date you are signing.
  5. Passport names. The operator guide on registration says the name entered must match the passport exactly and that late changes need to reach the operator quickly, so collect them early.
  6. Flights, with a margin. Book once the offer is signed, and leave room for a delayed return to harbour.

What else do people ask about peak-season booking?

Is three to six months a firm rule for July and August?

No. It is one Komodo operator guide's figure for good boats, so treat it as a starting point.

Can I still book a boat less than three months out?

Yes, if a boat is free. Check the terms first, because some published schedules leave little or no refund room that close to departure.

Are July and August always calm in Komodo?

No. One operator guide calls them the flattest weeks, yet the August 2026 restriction that Kompas reports lasted from the 6th to the 10th.

Does the extra park quota apply next July?

Not as reported. The addition of 500 visitors a day ran for September to December 2026, and the authority called it provisional.

Which days are busiest at the harbour?

Kompas reports that Mondays and Fridays are usually the peak. It does not say whether boarding on another day changes the price or suits any given boat.

How do I reach the desk?

Planning for peak weeks? Tell the desk your date range, how far it can move and how many guests are travelling, through WhatsApp 6281139414563 or bd@juaraholding.com. A reply is not a hold on a boat, and no date is secured until it appears in a written offer you have accepted.
